Me, Myself and I: Is your evil twin trying to kill you? — April 24, 2015

Me, Myself and I: Is your evil twin trying to kill you?

So, you’ve got a headache, you’re feeling tired and even a vacation away from your every day life, doesn’t make you feel refreshed. What could it be?

If you’re Yarmini Karaman, it’s probably just the dead twin sister in your brain. Initially thought to be a brain tumor, imagine Yarmini’s surprise when she woke up from surgery to find out that it was a teratoma: a clump of bone, hair and teeth.

Okay, so it wasn’t really her twin but at some point in Yarmini’s Mother’s womb, two embryo’s were trying to develop and one was absorbed into the surviving babies body. The human body is so freaking weird.

Parasitic twins are not completely uncommon. In 2013, a 2 year old boy, Xiao Feng, from China, was in distress, with a bloated stomach. His parent’s rushed him to the hospital and doctors were amazed to discover that the boy’s twin brother had been infused into Xiao’s stomach. The fetus was not fully formed and was removed from the poor toddler, who made a full recovery.

This makes me wonder about the souls of the absorbed twin. Is the soul or consciousness or whatever you want to call it, now part of the living child? How many of us are walking around today with a part our twin in our bodies? Have you ever found yourself of two minds about something and wondered why that other voice seems so different from what you know to be you? If it’s not schizophrenia, then perhaps it’s the twin living in your body.

Podcast: The Gralien Report — April 22, 2015

Podcast: The Gralien Report

The Gralien (a mash-up of the words Gray and Alien) Report, is a podcast, radio show (the KGRA station), and website hosted by the “Mouth of the South” Micah Hanks.

The show airs live on Mondays from 7 – 9 PM EST but you can find his show uploaded on iTunes, Stitcher and TuneIn Radio. Micah Hanks is also an author, co-host of other podcasts, musician and so much more that I can’t even keep track. I’m sure the man never sleeps.

The Gralien Report is free but there is a subscription option called Gralien X. For $7 a month you get an extra podcast. I’m not a subscriber but I think it’s probably well worth it, if you can afford it.

In their own words, The Gralien Report is where, “we seek to better our understanding of science and the mysteries of this world, and explore new possibilities pertaining to our existence.”

Check it out.

The Loch Ness Monster — April 21, 2015

The Loch Ness Monster

If you use Google, you have seen the latest Google icon (as date posted of this article, 4/21/15) celebrating 81 years of Loch Ness Monster hunting. I’m still trying to wrap my brain around that. It’s been 81 years since the first sighting that we all now know was faked with a toy submarine and a plastic plesiosaur-type head. Nessie is 81 years old and research, both professional and amateur outings, have continued. To this day, sighting still persist. Just check out the official Loch Ness website for the latest sighting.

Vox had this concise article about how scientist have debunked the entire Nessie legend. I agree with it but I still very much wish everyone was wrong and Nessie was real.

My very first paranormal show was, “In Search Of…” hosted by the phenomenal Leonard Nimoy, may he rest in peace. I think I just dated my self with that statement but, oh well!

My first foray into the Fortean, beyond the ghost stories you grow up with as a child, was Big Foot and The Loch Ness Monster. I was beyond fascinated with the idea that these creatures existed in the same space I did. I was terrified and both wondrous at the prospect of coming across them one day.

Of course, I grew up, started to think for myself, and realized that maybe these things I was once sure must be real, well…maybe they weren’t. I was a naive child but it didn’t take long for me to realize that people lie, photographs are faked and sometimes something that sounds too good to be true, IS too good to be true.

There is still hope for Big Foot and other such cryptids though. New and once thought, extinct species, are literally discovered every day. You just never know what’s out there until it finds you.

Happy Birthday, Nessie!

Stop the Presses! Ghosts Aren’t Real! — April 20, 2015

Stop the Presses! Ghosts Aren’t Real!

I read this article from metro.co.uk that states “scientist” (actually civil and environmental engineers) from Clarkson University in New York, have decided that ghost sightings are probably hallucinations caused by mold spores. Because you know old buildings and the like are just loaded with mold. Plus we know that ALL ghostly sightings take place in abandoned houses.

I am not a full on believer in ghosts but this kind of article just irritates me. It’s too ridiculous to be called journalism. Click bait most likely.

I just wonder why a civil and environmental engineer is getting grant money (an assumption on my part but that’s usually where college programs receive their money, if not from donors) in something pertaining to the paranormal. A waste of time and money on their part, in my opinion.

Podcast: Mysterious Universe — April 16, 2015

Podcast: Mysterious Universe

The most important point of this blog is to disseminate information. I enjoy pod-casts and I really enjoy the hell out of science, paranormal, Fortean-type pod-casts.

One of my favorites, and to me, the best is Mysterious Universe. The MU hosts, Benjamin Grundy and Aaron Wright are from Australia. They’ve been working hard at the podcast game since 2006.

I have to admit, it’s their humorous approach to most topics, that keeps me coming back for more. I’m even a Plus member and it’s the best $9 a month I’ve ever spent. You get your free podcast every Thursday, with an extra bit for Plus members and Monday’s podcast is purely for Plus. Episodes average between 90 minutes to 2 1/2 hours.

Frankly, I listen to quite of few podcast and none have kept my attention as much at this one. The topics are not only timely and interesting but the segments and interviews they do are mind-expanding.

Do yourself a favor and listen to this podcast NOW. In fact, the best stories are for the paid subscribers. It’s a given that you should forgo at least 1 Mocha Latte Frap Soy Double-Half-Caf  a month and subscribe to Mysterious Universe instead! They have the MU app for Apple and are about to unveil one for Android. You can download from their website or iTunes.
